Marie Maber Always Knew
Marie Maber has been involved with the visual arts her entire life. She’s a painter, sculptor, and writer, with over 100 of her art-related articles in print in newspapers and magazines. Ms. Maber is Professor of the Fine Arts, at Brookdale Community College, in Lincroft, New Jersey.
Marie’s 6-Year BFA Degree was awarded by The University of Pennsylvania in conjunction with the 4-Year Certificate Program completion at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She earned her Masters’ Degree from Temple University in Art History. She continues to study the visual arts during her summer breaks at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine and with The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts on location in Cape May, New Jersey.
Today Marie is Professor of Fine Art at Brookdale Community College, where she has been since 1993. She has taught Ancient Art History, Art Appreciation, Art Since the Renaissance and Studio Art, including Color Theory, Painting, 2-D Design, and Sculpture.
Some select installations of Marie’s individual and group projects:
- Commissioned Portrait of Judge Lawrence Monroe, oil on canvas, is on permanent display in the Bucks County Court House in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
- Tile Cross designed by Maber and made of hand-cut, hand painted tiles by 50 children, created in partnership with Lisa Naples and Bramley Maber, in 2002, the 6’ x 5’ cross is on permanent display in the Entry Lobby of the Christ Church Parish House in Shrewsbury, New Jersey.
- Portions of The Art History Mural on permanent display in the CVA Building, Brookdale Community College.
- Her largest commissioned mural was 45’ long, for The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia for an exhibition entitled, “It’s About Time,” sponsored by The Timex Corporation, on view two years.
Some of the locations Marie has shown her work are at the Monmouth Museum, The Art Alliance of Monmouth County, and Brookdale Community College. In 2017 she won the Jane Townsend award and has a Cresson Award Honorable Mention from PAFA.
Her influences are the local landscape and current issues in our world's ecosystem. Her mediums range from ceramics, acrylic paint and oil paint. She often casts small objects to use in her mixed-media pieces. Marie receives commissions to paint portraits and murals in private homes.
